Salary: USD 189,507 - 274,604 / annual
Quora is seeking an experienced Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join its distribution team and own the ranking models powering feed, notifications, and digest emails—some of Quora's highest-leverage surfaces. You will take end-to-end ownership of machine learning systems, from data pipelines and candidate extraction through feature engineering, model training, and production integration. Your core responsibilities include improving existing ranking models using advanced ML techniques, identifying new opportunities to apply machine learning across the Quora product, and collaborating with other ML engineers to implement algorithms efficiently. You will play a key role in developing methodologies that other engineers build upon, working on recommendation systems that connect millions of users with relevant content.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of professional experience working on recommendation or ranking models
- Good understanding of mathematical foundations of machine learning algorithms
- Previous experience building end-to-end machine learning systems
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's coordination hours (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience writing Python or C++ code
- Experience with generative recommendation systems
- Experience with user behavior or user sequence modeling, transformers, or long sequence modeling applied to ranking
- Experience leading large-scale multi-engineer projects
- Flexible and positive team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
- Passion for Quora's mission and goals
