Instacart's Digital Twin Platform team is building real-time inventory intelligence systems that power search, logistics, and fulfillment across North America's grocery stores. The team operates like a startup within the larger organization, managing the end-to-end shelf data supply chain: ingesting retail partner data, collecting novel inventory observations, developing sophisticated ML models, and integrating outputs into live products at scale. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will design, develop, and deploy production ML models that understand in-store inventory levels and shelf stocking dynamics across thousands of retail locations. You'll own the full ML lifecycle—from problem framing and data exploration through training, evaluation, and production deployment—with emphasis on quality, reliability, and measurable business impact. Key responsibilities include collaborating cross-functionally with software engineers, computer vision engineers, data scientists, and product leads to drive innovation; contributing to core platform infrastructure for data ingestion and active observation collection; and helping define technical direction for an expanding modeling practice operating at startup speed. You bring 5+ years of production ML experience, strong Python proficiency, and expertise with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn. You have demonstrated experience with large-scale data pipelines, structured and unstructured data at scale, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure). A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related field (or equivalent practical experience) is required. Preferred experience includes computer vision, inventory forecasting, demand sensing, or spatial/temporal modeling; real-time inference systems and low-latency model serving; independently driving projects from conception through production in fast-paced, cross-functional environments; and familiarity with retail, supply chain, or e-commerce domains. Experience collaborating with computer vision teams is a plus. The role is remote, available to candidates in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia. Instacart offers market-competitive compensation, new hire equity grants, annual refresh grants, and comprehensive benefits.
