Instacart's Digital Twin Platform team is building real-time inventory intelligence systems that power critical products across the company's grocery delivery ecosystem. The team operates like a startup within the larger organization, managing the end-to-end shelf data supply chain: ingesting data from retail partners, collecting novel inventory observations, developing sophisticated ML models, and deploying outputs into live products at scale across North America.
As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will design, develop, and deploy machine learning models that provide real-time understanding of in-store inventory levels and shelf stocking dynamics across thousands of retail locations. You'll own the full ML lifecycle—from problem framing and data exploration through model training, evaluation, and production deployment—with emphasis on quality, reliability, and measurable business impact.
Key responsibilities include collaborating cross-functionally with software engineers, computer vision engineers, data scientists, and product leads to drive innovation; contributing to core platform infrastructure that ingests retail partner data and collects novel inventory observations; and helping define the technical direction of an expanding modeling practice on a high-performance team operating with startup speed.
You'll work on technically complex, high-impact problems where your work directly shapes how millions of people experience grocery shopping. The role requires comfort with ambiguity, changing priorities, and the opportunity to make a significant mark on a problem space core to Instacart's business. This is a fully remote position with flexible work arrangements and regular in-person events for team connection.
