Neara is building engineering-grade, physics-enabled digital twins of electricity grids across four continents using advanced machine learning. The company helps asset owners understand infrastructure challenges and deploy viable solutions across millions of kilometres of power networks. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will develop machine learning models that digitize real-world infrastructure from diverse data sources including LIDAR, aerial imagery, and vector data. You'll own the full ML lifecycle—from data collection and QA through training, deployment, and monitoring. Your responsibilities include deciding which problems are best solved with ML, defining ML strategy for those problems, and staying current with best practices in data handling, MLOps, and emerging ML techniques. Key contributions will include: - Developing approaches to generate accurate electric networks from imperfect data using deep learning and classical ML algorithms - Developing and optimizing training pipelines to reduce iteration time - Scaling model serving across different problems while accelerating time-to-production - Improving model QA processes and detecting data/distribution drift - Building scalable data pipelines supporting training and serving across LiDAR, aerial photography, photogrammetry, and GIS sources - Mentoring junior engineers in model training and software engineering best practices You'll work asynchronously and cross-functionally on complex, ill-defined problems. The role requires demonstrated ML/deep learning experience, strong software engineering fundamentals, proficiency in PyTorch/TensorFlow/JAX, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to own problems proactively.
