Tools for Humanity (TFH), the company behind World, is building identity verification infrastructure for the AI era. World ID uses iris and face recognition to prove personhood at scale—17+ million verifications across 160 countries. The AI & Biometrics team owns the machine learning systems powering this network, including face verification, uniqueness detection, anti-spoofing, and supporting capabilities like face detection, image quality assessment, and pose estimation. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on the Face team, you will own end-to-end ML projects: problem definition, data preparation, model experimentation, evaluation, production validation, and monitoring. You'll improve core biometric identification and anti-spoofing models, training deep learning architectures with strict latency and memory budgets as first-class constraints. The role balances deep learning with classical computer vision and image processing—you'll use the right tool for each problem, whether that's a neural network, classical preprocessing, or lightweight on-device components. Key responsibilities include leading independent applied ML initiatives from hypothesis through experimentation and shipping decisions; working directly with face images and datasets to improve collection, labeling, and failure analysis; and partnering across Mobile, MLOps, Orb software, and Product teams to move ideas to production. You'll operate in real-world conditions—handling variation in cameras, lighting, pose, occlusion, and adversarial attack methods—where small regressions have meaningful impact. The team is well-supported with dedicated Mobile, ML Infrastructure, MLOps, and Face/Iris subteams handling deployment, data pipelines, training clusters, and tooling. The company was founded in 2019 and now has 400+ people across hardware, software, AI, cryptography, and global operations. Leadership comes from OpenAI, Tesla, SpaceX, Apple, Google, Stripe, Meta, Coinbase, and Palantir. Backed by a16z, Khosla Ventures, Bain Capital Crypto, Tiger Global, and others. Featured in TIME, Fast Company, Bloomberg, and The New York Times.
