Halter is a venture-backed agtech company transforming pastoral grazing management through precision livestock technology and predictive analytics. The company enables farmers and graziers to optimize operations sustainably, replacing traditional labor-intensive practices with intelligent systems that guide cattle movement without fences, quad bikes, or dogs.
You will join Halter's Predictive Systems group as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, owning end-to-end development of advanced ML pipelines that power core agricultural insights. Your work will span multiple domains: predictive modeling of pasture growth and land properties, animal health and activity state estimation, heat event detection, and grazing interval simulation for farmer recommendations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing novel predictive systems to solve real-world farming challenges, from biological process modeling to farm operations optimization
- Conducting extensive literature reviews and staying current with both ML advancements and pasture science
- Owning architectural design and all phases of model development (dataset construction, training, optimization)
- Supporting deployed models in production, learning from field behavior and system performance
- Proactively innovating across the data discipline to deliver high-impact solutions
You are a high-output generalist with deep ML expertise and experience translating cutting-edge research into practical applications. You have demonstrated success building complex predictive systems (multimodal time-series, simulation, etc.) and possess a strong academic or professional background in ML applied to real-world problems. You are deeply curious about agricultural domain knowledge, product strategy, and comfortable navigating ambiguity. You work autonomously across infrastructure, databases, simulation, and ML development, and collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and design teams.
