Deep Fission is a nuclear technology company developing advanced deep borehole pressurized water reactors. The company recently completed private placement financing and an Alternative Public Offering, operating as a public company while maintaining startup agility. Deep Fission is actively engaged with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Department of Energy (DOE) to advance its groundbreaking nuclear technology toward commercial deployment. The Senior Licensing Engineer will lead regulatory planning and support for the company's advanced reactor development under the DOE authorization framework and subsequent NRC license approval. This role bridges engineering design and regulatory compliance, translating regulatory requirements into actionable strategies for engineering execution. Key responsibilities include: interpreting and applying DOE and NRC regulatory requirements; collaborating with engineering and safety teams to define technical approaches for demonstrating regulatory compliance; developing licensing strategies, authorization plans, and regulator engagement plans; coordinating technical inputs and authoring licensing deliverables such as safety case summaries and design basis documentation; serving as a regulatory subject matter expert in cross-functional reviews and strategic planning; leading or contributing to regulatory interactions including DOE and NRC briefings and pre-application engagements; staying current with evolving U.S. licensing frameworks for advanced reactors; supporting program planning and risk analysis; and maintaining familiarity with AI-enabled tools for regulatory document management and compliance tracking. The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of experience in nuclear reactor licensing, regulatory affairs, or nuclear safety analysis, with proven experience supporting DOE reactor authorization or NRC Part 50/52 licensing. Direct DOE authorization experience is preferred. The role requires deep understanding of regulatory frameworks for advanced reactor designs, strong technical writing skills, and the ability to translate engineering requirements into regulatory deliverables. A Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field is required, or commensurate experience. Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams are essential.
