Relativity Space is developing the Terran R rocket to deliver payloads to orbit and advance commercial space launch. The Launch team operates at the intersection of all major vehicle systems—stages, payloads, ground systems, launch operations, landing, and refurbishment—based at the Cape. This Senior Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing and analyzing mechanical systems that integrate across the entire launch vehicle and ground infrastructure.
You will apply fundamental and practical engineering methods to develop innovative solutions for complex launch challenges. Key responsibilities include interpreting and coordinating engineering requirements between vehicle and ground support teams, developing detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, fluid system schematics, and electrical schematics. You will conduct structural, dynamic, and system performance analyses using hand calculations and finite element methods, then present and communicate designs effectively to cross-functional teams and leadership, emphasizing methodology, functionality, and constructability.
The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in structural design, mechanisms, fluid power systems, or related disciplines. You must be proficient with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo) and have working knowledge of mechanical design principles, system integration, and structural analysis. Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing is valued.
