Flock Safety is seeking a Senior Kernel Engineer to lead low-level operating system development for next-generation hardware deployed in demanding outdoor environments. You will own the full stack of embedded Linux and Android BSP (Board Support Package) development, from bootloader architecture through kernel optimization. Key responsibilities include: leading Qualcomm Android BSP bring-up and devicetree modifications for camera platforms; architecting and customizing bootloaders (XBL/ABL) for security and efficiency; developing and debugging firmware for Application Digital Signal Processors (ADSP); partnering with electrical engineering and validation teams on hardware-software integration; and analyzing system logs and performance traces to eliminate latency and memory bottlenecks. This is hands-on, low-level work—not high-level Android application development. You will directly debug physical devices, run CI builds, and deploy stable OS builds to hardware. Close collaboration with electrical engineering, validation, and cloud teams is essential. Required qualifications: mastery of C and Linux kernel internals (memory management, power management, IRQ handling, subsystem architecture); hands-on experience with Qualcomm chipset bring-up, devicetrees, and Android system architecture; bootloader development experience (XBL/ABL); firmware development or debugging for embedded DSPs; bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related field. Preferred: Linux kernel drivers (SPI/I2C/UART), Rust/C++, or Qualcomm proprietary subsystems. Flock is a 1,700-person company backed by over $1B in funding, building public safety technology. Last year they supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate 10,000+ missing people. The company prioritizes hub-based presence in Atlanta and Boston but this role is fully remote.
