Relay Commerce is an e-commerce enablement platform serving 35,000+ merchants with solutions spanning personalized messaging, social commerce, and customer retention. Relo, a Relay company, helps consumer goods and subscription brands unlock 30%+ additional revenue from existing customers through predictive replenishment, cross-sell, and subscription offers integrated with Shopify.
In this primarily backend role (~70% TypeScript services, ~30% React frontend), you will design and evolve serverless systems powering millions of transactions. You'll own features end-to-end: shaping problems with senior product managers, proposing architecture, implementing solutions with AI assistance (Claude, Codex), and operating systems in production. The role emphasizes reliability, observability, maintainability, and performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and deliver serverless TypeScript services on AWS Lambda with MySQL and Prisma ORM
- Contribute to React-based frontends integrating with Shopify and Klaviyo ecosystems
- Own features end-to-end from conception to production
- Participate in escalation support for live production systems
- Engage in architectural discussions and technical decision-making
- Add AI agent context to codebases, build MCPs, and enable LLM integration (e.g., Shopify Sidekick)
- Improve processes, guidelines, and documentation in a fully-remote organization
You should be comfortable converting loosely-defined product ideas into concrete technical solutions, effectively leveraging AI agents to deliver reliable software at pace, and communicating clearly through design proposals and technical discussions. You think operationally about reliability, observability, security, and performance. You work across the full stack when needed and take accountability for systems through to resolution.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 8 years of senior-level JavaScript/TypeScript experience across multiple frameworks and companies
- Extensive REST API design experience, particularly for third-party platform integrations
- Deep TypeScript expertise: class-oriented design, strong typing, SOLID principles, OOP patterns, TDD
- Strong SQL and relational database knowledge (MySQL or RDBMS): query performance, indexing, schema design
- Clear React proficiency: components, interactive UI, state management, backend API integration
- AWS cloud-native services experience
- Proven delivery experience shipping major features as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Customer-focused mindset
- Highly desirable: predictive algorithms experience, Shopify platform knowledge, SRE practices and observability tools (DataDog)
