FlixBus is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join the customer-facing Search team within the Demand Division. This team owns the critical first step in the booking funnel, serving millions of search requests daily across web, app, and external partner channels for 40+ countries worldwide.
In this role, you will be responsible for handling the search infrastructure that generates inventory across 3,000+ destinations globally. You'll work on complex technical challenges involving graph theory and large-scale data processing to simplify user experience while providing relevant information without overwhelming customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining the search engine handling millions of daily requests
- Writing SOLID, maintainable, scalable code with strong testing practices
- Designing components and integrations with focus on scalability, maintainability, and reliability
- Leading adoption of better engineering practices and improving team workflows
- Managing technical debt and developing strategies to reduce recurring debt
- Designing monitoring and observability strategies for new components
- Supporting CI/CD environments and ensuring positive impact with each release
- Contributing to agile, team-oriented development practices
You'll join an autonomous, cross-functional squad including a Product Owner, backend and frontend engineers, data and UX partners, and principal engineers. The team emphasizes honest retrospectives, short standups, and real ownership from concept to production. You're also invited to actively contribute to the broader Engineering Community at FlixTech.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent industry experience
- 7+ years of commercial experience as a Java Engineer
- Strong experience with Java/JVM frameworks (Micronaut, Spring Boot)
- Experience with Kubernetes and AWS
- Solid experience with relational databases (MySQL or similar)
- Experience with distributed systems
- Solution-oriented mindset focused on translating business vision into technical solutions
