Hex is a collaborative analytics and data science workspace that enables anyone to explore data using natural language, with or without code. The company has raised over $100M from top-tier investors including Sequoia and a16z, and serves thousands of customers including Ramp, Figma, Stubhub, and Anthropic. You will be a highly technical, hands-on Senior IT Systems Engineer responsible for building and operating the systems that enable Hex employees to do their best work. This role goes far beyond traditional helpdesk support—you will own critical parts of the employee technology environment including identity and access management, endpoint management, SaaS administration, employee onboarding and offboarding, office technology, asset management, and the automation that connects these systems together. As a senior technical owner within IT, you will work closely with Security, People, Finance, Engineering, and external partners. You'll help set the technical direction for IT with the CISO while remaining deeply hands-on: designing systems, implementing automation, debugging difficult problems, improving existing infrastructure, and stepping in when something important needs to get fixed. The role emphasizes using AI and automation to rethink how a modern technology company should run its internal systems. Key responsibilities include: - Owning and improving core IT infrastructure across identity, endpoints, SaaS applications, employee lifecycle management, office technology, and asset management - Building automation, AI agents, and integrations that eliminate repetitive manual work and allow IT operations to scale - Managing and improving the endpoint fleet, including device provisioning, configuration, compliance, patching, and inventory - Establishing strong operational standards for IT systems, including monitoring, documentation, change management, and incident response - Identifying recurring sources of employee friction and systematically eliminating them - Operating and improving technology across offices, including networking, conference rooms, AV, and other employee-facing systems - Working effectively with managed service providers, consultants, and technology vendors while maintaining strong internal ownership - Partnering with the CISO and security team to design and mature Hex's IT program, operating model, and team The role is hybrid, requiring 2 days per week in the San Francisco office. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of experience in IT engineering, corporate infrastructure, systems engineering, or similar role in a modern technology environment - Deep hands-on experience administering identity, endpoint, SaaS, and employee productivity systems - Experience managing macOS fleets using modern endpoint management tooling - Strong scripting and automation skills, with ability to integrate systems using APIs and build durable workflows - Comfortable working across a broad technical surface area, from identity and SaaS integrations to laptops, networks, conference rooms, and office infrastructure - Strong understanding of security fundamentals and ability to work effectively with a Security organization - Proven ability to take ambiguous or poorly defined operational problems, identify the underlying systems issue, and drive it to a durable solution - High operational standards and strong instinct for reliability, simplicity, and reducing employee friction - Excitement about using AI and emerging technologies to rethink traditional IT workflows - Ability to communicate clearly with both highly technical teams and non-technical employees - Willingness to roll up your sleeves and work across diverse technical domains Ideal candidates have helped scale IT infrastructure at a growing technology company and have seen firsthand which processes break as an organization moves from hundreds toward thousands of employees.
