Valar Atomics is a Series A nuclear energy company building advanced, factory-made nuclear systems for industrial heat, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is constructing its first pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah. You will join the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Hardware Engineering team within the Fuel Manufacturing group. This role owns the physical measurement and control layer for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities, working alongside I&C software, process, electrical, mechanical, and nuclear safety engineers in a hands-on, safety-first environment. Key responsibilities include: • Specify and select field instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, level, analytical devices) and produce instrument data sheets, specifications, and requisitions. • Size and specify final control elements including control valves, actuators, positioners, and regulators; perform valve sizing, noise/cavitation checks, and actuator thrust verification. • Design control panels and remote I/O architecture, including enclosure layout, I/O module allocation, terminal arrangement, power distribution, UPS sizing, and intrinsic safety barriers. • Perform hazardous area classification per NEC Article 500/505 or IEC 60079; prepare intrinsic safety loop calculations and verify entity parameters. • Develop and maintain instrumentation engineering documentation: instrument indexes, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, I/O lists, location plans, cable schedules, and P&ID mark-ups. • Support safety instrumented system (SIS) hardware scope including SIL determination, safety sensor/final element selection, redundancy architecture, proof test procedures, and SIL verification per IEC 61511 and IEC 61508. • Tune PID and advanced regulatory control loops; commission field instrumentation; diagnose and resolve loop deviations, valve response issues, and measurement quality problems. • Support capital projects and ongoing plant operations with measurement quality and installation integrity directly supporting production reliability and nuclear safety. The team values technical depth, disciplined documentation, and a safety-first culture. This is a hands-on role where your work directly impacts nuclear safety and operational reliability.
