Salary: USD 197,000 - 218,000 / annual

Muon Space is seeking a Senior Instrument Scientist to lead calibration testing for electro-optical/infrared instruments on LEO satellite constellations. You will own the hardware and software infrastructure used to calibrate instruments on the ground, define test procedures that execute calibration methodology, and deliver calibration results and reports that validate instrument readiness for flight. Key responsibilities include: - Develop hardware and software infrastructure for ground calibration of imaging systems and remote sensing instruments - Define ground-calibration test procedures, including campaigns run with the instrument integrated on the spacecraft or on ground testbeds - Deliver ground-calibration results and reports to stakeholders - Partner with the Calibration Design scientist to ensure calibration methodology can be executed with available ground test infrastructure - Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support on-orbit anomaly resolution (approximately one week every month and a half) This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site in the Mountain View office. The position involves hands-on work with calibration equipment, spacecraft testbeds, and flight software during integrated test campaigns. QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's, Master's, or doctoral degree in engineering, physics, or related field, or equivalent experience - 5+ years of experience building or operating ground calibration test infrastructure for imaging systems, remote sensing instruments, or comparable electro-optical hardware - Hands-on experience with calibration equipment such as integrating spheres, blackbodies, collimators, or autocollimators - Experience with spacecraft testbeds used for integrated test campaigns - Comfort operating flight software during integrated test campaigns - Software proficiency in one or more languages (Python, Julia, C++) with experience writing code that others depend on, tested, reviewed, and maintained in a shared codebase - Strong communication skills, comfortable delivering calibration results and reports across Instrument Assembly, Integration and Test, and data product teams Nice-to-have: Experience with visible and infrared sensors, scanner characterization, radiometric or geometric calibration methodology, calibration uncertainty analysis and error budgeting, cleanroom environments, or sensitive electro-optical hardware handling.
