Thought Machine is building modern banking infrastructure to replace legacy systems at the world's largest financial institutions. The company has raised over £500m in funding from top-tier investors including JPMorgan Chase, Standard Chartered, and Temasek, and operates offices across London, New York, Singapore, Sydney, and Lisbon.
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a crucial role in deploying and maintaining cutting-edge software that powers banking systems globally. You'll work on building mechanisms to automate and streamline deployment processes, facilitate infrastructure changes across data and streaming platforms, and develop tools that enable Thought Machine engineers and bank SREs to operate and integrate with Vault reliably.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the engineering team in building reliable, scalable applications
- Designing and building tools to make services scalable and highly available, with a focus on automation
- Developing observability and orchestration tooling to allow customers to monitor and manage their deployments
- Contributing to disaster recovery, backup, and redundancy tooling and strategy
- Improving codebase quality through new tools and processes
This is a full-time, permanent position based in the Lisbon office, requiring four days per week onsite. You'll work in a fast-paced environment where engineering excellence is paramount, and code must scale, be secure, performant, and provide great user experience.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar technical field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in infrastructure engineering
- Production-ready infrastructure management tooling development with Python or Golang
- Familiarity with at least one of: Observability Tools (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana), Databases (Postgres, DuckDB), Event Streaming platforms (Kafka), or Container Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Experience with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab, GitHub Actions)
Desirable:
- Experience supporting production systems in high-consistency transactional environments
