Stream powers real-time Chat, Video, Activity Feeds, and AI Moderation infrastructure for billions of end-users across thousands of apps, processing billions of API requests monthly. As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you'll join a small, senior platform team during a transformative period: migrating from AWS to GCP, adopting Kubernetes at scale, and relocating 35-40 Postgres shards from managed RDS to self-hosted infrastructure.
This is a hands-on role where you'll write code most of the time, own infrastructure decisions independently, and operate without large-org support structures. You'll design and build infrastructure for high-scale real-time systems handling millions of concurrent connections. Key responsibilities include driving Kubernetes adoption end-to-end (cluster architecture, workload design, service migration), contributing to the AWS-to-GCP migration with re-architected workloads for cost and performance, and owning cloud cost optimization across infrastructure. You'll write production Go and Python for internal services, platform tooling, and automation that helps product and SDK engineers deploy, observe, and debug more effectively.
You'll lead post-migration tuning and capacity planning, partner with backend, video, and moderation engineers on system design and reliability targets, and participate in on-call and incident response, turning findings into durable fixes. The role requires 5+ years in infrastructure, platform, DevOps, or SRE engineering with clear depth in infrastructure over application development. You need software engineering background with production coding experience in Go or Python, Kubernetes experience at meaningful production scale beyond operations, demonstrated cloud cost optimization at scale on AWS or GCP, and direct experience running high-scale production systems. Strong cloud fundamentals (networking, compute, storage, IAM) and hands-on comfort in small teams are essential. Active use of AI tooling in your engineering workflow is expected.
Bonus qualifications include experience across both AWS and GCP, large-scale PostgreSQL knowledge (sharding, replication, partitioning), real-time systems background (WebSockets, WebRTC, streaming), and familiarity with CockroachDB, Redis, Terraform, and Prometheus-based observability stacks.
