Instructure is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to build and operate deployment infrastructure for AI/ML systems in production. This is a hands-on role where you'll own the deployment pipelines that take AI models and services from prototype to production, ensuring reliability and scale. You'll be one of two engineers owning infrastructure for the AI team, giving you wide scope, real ownership, and direct influence over how the organization builds AI capabilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and operate CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code for AI service deployments
- Deploy and manage model serving, batch scoring, and orchestration pipelines across dev, staging, and production environments
- Partner with data scientists and applied AI engineers to move prototypes into production, including system design for new services
- Own production reliability: monitoring, alerting, debugging, performance optimization, and cost management
- Identify patterns and build reusable templates to accelerate team velocity on subsequent deployments
Required qualifications:
- 6+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, platform, or ML engineering with production system ownership
- Deep hands-on AWS experience across compute, networking, storage, deployment, and monitoring
- Infrastructure-as-code expertise (Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation)
- Container and modern deployment experience (Docker required; Kubernetes or ECS/EKS preferred)
- Orchestration and workflow tooling experience (Airflow, Dagster, Argo, Step Functions, or similar)
- Ability to work through ambiguity and collaborate directly with data scientists and researchers
Bonus experience includes ML platform components, LLM/retrieval systems in production, specialized data stores (graph databases), and building internal tooling that other engineers adopt.
The role requires onsite collaboration on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with Thursdays strongly encouraged.
