IonQ is seeking a Senior HPC Cluster Engineer to join its Infrastructure Team. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining a high-performance computing platform that spans on-premises and cloud clusters, supporting IonQ's quantum computing research and development efforts. Key responsibilities include designing and deploying HPC systems for quantum simulations and applications, developing automation and tooling for configuring Linux systems across on-premises and cloud environments, and providing technical support to internal researchers and software developers running complex workloads. You'll build technical relationships across teams, self-manage projects and priorities, and establish yourself as a go-to resource for HPC configuration, automation, and workload optimization within IonQ's technical community. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of hands-on experience with Linux systems on HPC clusters, including cluster management, performance tuning, and resource management. Familiarity with HPC workload schedulers is expected. A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience is required; non-traditional backgrounds are welcome. This is a hybrid role based in College Park, MD; Boulder, CO; or Bothell, WA, with up to 15% domestic and international travel. The position offers remote work flexibility a few days per week and the opportunity to directly impact quantum computing advancement by supporting cutting-edge scientific computing infrastructure.
