Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. The company operates five satellites on orbit with a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts. As a Senior Harness Design Engineer, you will own the complete design lifecycle of wire harnesses that keep spacecraft operational in geostationary orbit, from schematic capture through production release.
You will translate electrical architecture into manufacturable, flight-reliable harness designs capable of surviving launch and full mission life. This multidisciplinary role demands strong electrical design expertise combined with mechanical routing and packaging literacy. You'll work across low-voltage, high-voltage, and RF interconnects, partnering with avionics, power, propulsion, payload, production, and test teams.
Key responsibilities include: owning harness architecture and design from concept through production; performing electrical analysis (wire sizing, voltage-drop budgets, protection coordination, derating, connector selection); developing and maintaining schematics, harness drawings, wire lists, and splice diagrams using Zuken E3 suite; driving design-to-manufacturing automation; defining controlled harness lengths, tolerances, and service loops; establishing routing intent, grounding, bonding, and shielding strategy across constrained spacecraft volumes; auditing wire diagrams against interface control documents; specifying physical protection and support (lacing, convolute, thermal/abrasion protection); building and validating prototype and test harnesses; supporting pre-launch integration and test operations; leading root-cause analysis to enhance reliability and manufacturability; and collaborating with manufacturing partners on design-for-manufacturability feedback.
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who owns problems end-to-end, drives reliability through rigorous analysis, and raises the bar on flight harness design and build quality. You'll interface with nearly every part of the vehicle and require deep electrical design proficiency with mechanical design literacy.
