Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. With five satellites on orbit and a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts, the company is expanding rapidly from its 153,000 sq. ft. Northern California headquarters.
You will design high-level software architecture to support vehicle integration and test operations for satellite systems. Your responsibilities include coordinating across multiple engineering teams to create software testing infrastructure, working with ground and flight software teams to integrate systems into test environments, and designing scalable test code reusable across multiple testing campaigns and vehicle generations.
Key duties involve refining electrical engineering specifications to validate critical flight components, supporting all development phases from proposal through successful test and flight operations, implementing ground control and telemetry software, and contributing to team growth through recruitment and hiring.
You'll need a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent background knowledge, plus 5+ years of relevant experience. Required skills include 2+ years with Python or similar object-oriented scripting languages, 2+ years with Linux and shell command line tools, and 2+ years with version control systems (git, mercurial, svn, or similar). You must be comfortable reading schematics and datasheets, debugging circuits interfacing with embedded software using debuggers, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes. Experience with web development frameworks and databases is a bonus.
