Salary: CAD 105,000 - 140,000 / annual
Vital Bio is seeking an experienced Senior Hardware Systems Engineer to own the end-to-end development and manufacturing of assigned hardware subsystems. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll serve as the primary engineering interface with contract manufacturers, driving subsystem performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost throughout the product lifecycle.
You will take full ownership of your assigned hardware module, from design through manufacturing and system integration. Key responsibilities include resolving technical issues affecting production and assembly, supporting manufacturing builds through failure investigation and corrective action coordination, and owning technical communication with suppliers. You'll coordinate across Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Firmware, Software, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Transfer, and Quality teams to ensure subsystem readiness for major milestones.
Your technical scope includes root-cause investigations, integration issue resolution, and support for verification activities including V&V testing, design verification, manufacturing validation, and reliability testing. You'll develop and modify mechanical designs using CAD, produce engineering documentation, support tolerance analysis and DFM/DFA activities, and execute engineering change orders. You'll also identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in cost (COGS), BOM optimization, reliability, manufacturability, and assembly efficiency.
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent), 5-10 years of product development experience, and strong CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred). You should have direct experience working with contract manufacturers, supporting products through manufacturing builds, and strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities. Experience in regulated industries and medical devices is preferred. You're comfortable coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines and excel at communication and organization.
