Base Power is rebuilding America's electrical grid by deploying distributed battery storage systems that transform centralized infrastructure into resilient, abundant networks. The company is seeking a Senior Hardware Integration Engineer to design and integrate next-generation residential battery storage, inverter, and microgrid interconnect device (MID) systems. In this role, you will design and integrate battery management systems (BMS), inverters, and MID hardware for residential energy applications. You'll develop and maintain system architecture and electrical schematics for multi-component energy systems, conduct testing and validation of integrated hardware, and troubleshoot complex issues. You'll partner closely with software teams to ensure seamless hardware/software integration and support control algorithm development. Additionally, you'll support regulatory compliance and product certification processes to meet industry standards. Base is a startup where priorities shift quickly; your role may expand or change based on business needs. REQUIREMENTS: - BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of hardware development experience, ideally in energy storage or power systems - Electrical engineering fundamentals: circuit analysis, analog/digital electronics, high-voltage design - Power electronics expertise: DC-DC/DC-AC converters, inverters, switching power supplies, grid-tie systems - Battery systems knowledge: Li-ion/LiFePO4 technologies, BMS design, charging algorithms, safety systems - Software skills: embedded programming (C/C++, Python), communication protocols (CAN, Modbus) - Physics background in electromagnetics, thermodynamics, and measurement principles - PCB design tools (Altium Designer, KiCad) - Circuit simulation tools (LTSpice, MATLAB/Simulink) - Test equipment operation - Familiarity with UL 1741, IEEE 1547, NEC standards PREFERRED: - Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain - Experience with residential energy codes and smart home integration - Background in product certification and regulatory approvals
