As a Senior Ground Systems Engineer at Impulse Space, you will own the design, installation, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the industrial gas and cryogenic fluid infrastructure that enables spacecraft manufacturing, testing, and launch operations across the Redondo Beach campus.
You will serve as the responsible engineer and primary technical owner for industrial gas and cryogenic fluid systems, designing and maintaining cryogenic tank farms, gas distribution systems, pressure control systems, and associated instrumentation. You will apply first-principles engineering—including thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and controls—to develop new ground support systems and improve existing infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include partnering with Test, Manufacturing, Avionics, Facilities, and Environmental Health & Safety teams to support production and test operations; developing system specifications, P&IDs, operating procedures, preventive maintenance plans, and engineering documentation; troubleshooting system issues involving cryogenic fluids, high-pressure gases, valves, instrumentation, controls, and process equipment; managing technical relationships with industrial gas suppliers, equipment vendors, and contractors; and leading system commissioning, upgrades, and expansion projects while ensuring compliance with applicable safety and engineering standards.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline, plus experience designing, operating, or maintaining industrial gas or cryogenic fluid systems. A strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and process engineering fundamentals is essential.
