atVenu is seeking a Senior GraphQL API Software Developer to join their API team and help shape the design, scaling, and evolution of their public GraphQL API. This is a hands-on senior role focused on establishing patterns, conventions, and standards that enable reliable growth across North America, Europe, and beyond.
You will collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional development teams to design, build, and maintain robust APIs serving both enterprise customers and startup users. Your responsibilities include designing and evolving the public GraphQL schema with clear versioning and deprecation strategies, implementing API security best practices (authentication, authorization, rate limiting, query-cost analysis, DoS protection), and optimizing resolver performance through batching patterns and N+1 query elimination.
Key technical contributions include architecting scalable services using accepted design patterns, owning the API consumer developer experience through documentation and clear conventions, and proactively identifying and addressing technical debt. You will mentor junior developers and champion engineering excellence across the team.
The tech stack includes Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, CouchDB, React/React Native, AWS, GitHub, Sidekiq, and Docker. You'll work with a development manager and collaborate across teams to translate business needs into pragmatic, performant solutions.
Required qualifications: substantial experience publishing and maintaining public GraphQL APIs, deep API design judgment, strong security and compliance mindset (fintech/payments experience a plus), hands-on Ruby on Rails experience, proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems, and excellent cross-team collaboration skills. A genuine interest in the live event space is valued.
