As Senior Government & Community Relations Manager for Australia, you will lead Hipcamp's government affairs strategy across the country, operating as the primary on-ground government relations leader for the Australian market. This is a highly autonomous role reporting to the US-based Government and Community Relations team across different time zones. Your core responsibilities include: - Developing and executing Hipcamp's government affairs strategy across Australia, identifying and prioritizing regulatory risks and opportunities that impact Host growth and retention - Leading engagement with state and local governments, with particular focus on navigating council planning systems, engaging planning departments, and building relationships with elected officials - Participating in public processes and regulatory consultations to shape policy outcomes favorable to low-impact private camping - Building strategic partnerships with industry bodies, community organizations, and other stakeholders to influence policy and regulatory environments - Managing relationships with key decision-makers and influencers across multiple jurisdictions - Working through complex planning and political processes, identifying who actually influences decisions, and building trust before needs arise - Operating independently, setting priorities with your manager, making sound strategic decisions, and moving work forward with minimal day-to-day direction - Collaborating with a small, distributed Australia-based team across company functions You are a sophisticated relationship builder and strategic operator who understands government affairs as a long game. You excel at building trust, understanding diverse perspectives, navigating difficult conversations, and finding constructive paths forward even in challenging situations. You know when to push, negotiate, build broader support, or change course. You are comfortable with ambiguity and setbacks, and you thrive in autonomous, high-ownership environments.
