Outpost is an orbital logistics company building reusable Earth-return vehicles that enable in-space manufacturing, on-orbit warehousing, and rapid global delivery through space. The CarryAll vehicle family returns payloads from 200 kg to 10 metric tons, lands within 10 meters of target, and can be refurbished and relaunched. The company serves defense, civil, and commercial customers with validated demand and a growing pipeline.
You will own the end-to-end GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) architecture for bringing mass from orbit to a precise landing point on Earth. This encompasses the deorbit burn to hit an entry corridor, hypersonic entry management within structural and thermal limits, and guided descent to achieve repeatable, cost-effective landings.
This is a hands-on role where you design the guidance and estimation architecture, write flight-critical code, integrate it onto hardware, conduct hardware-in-the-loop testing, participate in drop tests and flight campaigns, and iterate based on real flight data. You will see your controllers fly within months rather than years.
Required: Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline with 5+ years as a GNC or Controls professional, or an advanced degree with 3+ years in GNC/Controls. Strong software development experience in C++ and Python. Proficiency with Git, Jira, and CI/CD pipelines. The role is in-person, five days per week, in Playa Vista, California.
