Applied Intuition Defence, based in London, is a subsidiary focused on delivering dual-use autonomous capabilities to national security customers across air, land, sea, and space domains.
As a Senior Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Engineer, you will design, integrate, and test core flight autonomy capabilities for a range of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), from agile quadrotors to long-range fixed-wing platforms. You'll develop and adapt GNC algorithms to meet unique program requirements, contributing reusable capabilities to the core software stack that power multiple programs across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Writing and deploying software for real autonomous aircraft systems (Group 1-5 UAVs) and high-fidelity simulations to accomplish tactical military missions
- Building, leveraging, and improving aerial autonomy software architectures tested and deployed on real systems
- Collaborating with third-party UAS vendors to integrate autonomy software onto OEM hardware
- Developing outer-loop control systems and path planning algorithms
- Creating and simulating 3DoF/6DoF vehicle models to support GNC algorithm development
- Conducting flight testing and performing data analysis
Required qualifications:
- Master's degree in Aerospace, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 6+ years of hands-on GNC software development for autonomous systems
- Strong C++ programming experience
- Demonstrated expertise in control theory, dynamics, and optimization applied to real-world systems
- Experience with UAS GNC/navigation systems (PX4, Ardupilot)
- Flight testing and data analysis experience
- Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance (current or previous clearance preferred)
Nice-to-have skills include Docker/containerization, Linux, Python, DevOps, Bazel, software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and prior national security project experience. The role requires general willingness to travel between offices and customer sites.
