Bedrock Robotics is deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction machinery across the country, backed by $350M in funding. The company is led by industry veterans from Waymo, Segment, and Uber Freight, and is solving real-world autonomy challenges in construction and infrastructure.
You will define the functional safety concept for autonomous construction systems, with a focus on hardware. Working alongside safety, hardware, and software teams, you'll conduct comprehensive safety analysis, develop diagnostics, generate fault metrics, and guide system elements through the complete safety lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include: authoring technical safety concepts at the hardware level; partnering with the hardware team to understand architectural requirements for future platforms; authoring hardware safety requirements and driving the design of safety mechanisms; establishing test plans for verification and validation; defining test infrastructure and automation; and executing safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, FMEDA, FTA).
You bring 7+ years of safety-critical hardware or systems engineering experience, with several years focused specifically on functional safety. You have hands-on hardware background—you've designed, reviewed, brought up, debugged, or qualified electrical and electronic hardware yourself. You're fluent in functional safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 26262, ISO 25119, ISO 19014) and their application across different systems. You're comfortable with real-time and embedded systems, fail-safe and fail-operational architectures, and the failure modes of sensing and compute hardware.
Stand-out qualifications include experience with autonomous systems, system-level functional safety, hands-on certification or third-party assessment work (TÜV, UL), fault injection/HIL bench setup, sensing and compute (cameras, lidar, GNSS, IMUs), and familiarity with heavy construction equipment. A BS or advanced degree in electrical, mechanical, systems engineering, or equivalent practical experience is required.
