GitLab is seeking a Senior Fullstack Engineer to join the GTM Engineering team, which builds and operates the technical systems supporting go-to-market and growth initiatives. In this role, you will design and build backend services and APIs that power GTM and growth platforms, while contributing across the stack as needed. This is a 0-to-1 opportunity where you can shape architectural decisions and guide work from specification through production.
Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining backend services and APIs for GTM platforms; contributing across the full stack including frontend work when required; influencing technical direction for owned systems through build-versus-buy analysis and speed-versus-maintainability trade-offs; identifying and resolving performance, scalability, and reliability issues proactively; reviewing code and designs from peers; mentoring junior engineers; and documenting system design decisions and architecture to enable asynchronous collaboration.
You should bring a strong track record of owning backend systems in production, with proficiency in Vue, Node, Go, and Ruby. Deep experience with backend service design—including API design, data modeling, and database performance—is essential. You'll need to make sound technical trade-offs independently, thrive in fast-moving environments where priorities shift with campaign timelines, and communicate clearly through architecture proposals and design records for distributed teams.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience building systems for marketing, growth, or GTM engineering contexts (web platforms, content tooling, campaign infrastructure); working in remote-first or distributed organizations; mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction beyond individual work; and explaining technical trade-offs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
