Clara is a fast-growing fintech company in Latin America providing payment solutions, corporate cards, bill pay, and financing to over 20,000 businesses. The company is backed by top-tier investors including Kaszek, Monashees, Coatue, DST Global, and General Catalyst.
You'll join the Onboarding team, which owns the critical first-impression experience for Clara customers: from sign-up through first transaction. This includes KYB/KYC flows, document collection and verification, identity validation, and account activation. The work spans multiple countries with distinct regulatory frameworks and requires orchestration of a growing ecosystem of identity and verification providers.
The role is genuinely fullstack but backend-heavy, focusing on integrations, verification orchestration, and data flows. You'll own features end-to-end in an environment where AI is central to the build process—automating manual review steps and accelerating market expansion.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and build backend services powering the onboarding engine: sign-up, KYB/KYC, document collection, verification orchestration, account activation
- Contribute to frontend development: build intuitive, responsive interfaces that reduce friction and simplify complex compliance processes
- Own integrations with external providers (identity verification, document validation, business data sources), abstracting complexity behind clean, resilient internal APIs
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Risk, and Compliance to translate regulatory requirements into great product experiences
- Apply AI tools to ship faster and improve team workflows
- Elevate the team through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing
You bring 5+ years of production software engineering experience with strong Java and Spring ecosystem expertise (Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Batch). You're comfortable architecting scalable distributed systems and microservices for financial products. You have solid data modeling instincts and hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Redis. You've built and secured RESTful APIs, integrated third-party providers, and worked with async/event-driven patterns (Kafka). AWS experience and modern dev tooling proficiency are expected. You have a track record of mentoring engineers and raising quality standards. You're fluent in English, highly autonomous, and actively use AI tools in daily work. A strong React engineer hungry to own backend work is equally welcome.
