Protege is building a platform to solve AI's data problem by facilitating secure, efficient, and privacy-centric exchange of AI training data. The company is backed by world-class investors and powers partnerships with ambitious AI teams.
You'll join the Presentation team, which builds the interfaces where Protege's data catalog meets users. This includes an internal dashboard for cataloging and curating datasets, and a customer portal where AI labs browse, stream, and evaluate content before licensing.
This is a full-stack product engineering role in TypeScript and Next.js. You'll own features end-to-end: UI, API, data model, and tests. The datasets are large and multimodal (video, audio, motion capture, documents, medical imaging), so much of the craft involves making that volume feel fast, legible, and usable in a browser.
As a senior engineer, you'll lead the team's largest and most ambiguous initiatives—those spanning both apps, crossing into other squads' services, or requiring discovery of the right product before building. You'll partner with the team lead on direction, lead design on complex workflows, and raise the bar for the codebase.
Key responsibilities include: leading major initiatives from discovery through design, build, and rollout (e.g., search previews at catalog scale, new content modalities); talking directly with partnerships, solutions, and sales teams to understand business context; designing complex workflows and data-heavy interfaces yourself; building internal tools for sample creation, access management, and delivery exports; building customer-facing experiences for browsing and evaluating multimodal samples; optimizing large datasets for browser performance (streaming, previews, lazy loading, export); building search UX over embeddings; deciding architecture (client-side vs. route handler vs. backend service); handling sensitive data correctly (scoped access, secure links, PHI-aware routes); setting quality bars for testing, performance, and design consistency; leading design discussions and code reviews; and turning repeated patterns into reusable design system components.
You bring 5+ years building production web applications, deep TypeScript and React expertise with Next.js or comparable full-stack framework in production, end-to-end shipped features, strong design judgment, solid backend fundamentals (API design, Postgres, auth/permissions, AWS), experience with data-heavy or media-heavy interfaces, direct user collaboration, attention to detail with bias to action, and curiosity. Nice-to-haves include media playback experience (HTML5 video/audio, HLS, codecs), UX over embeddings/vector search, a portfolio showing design taste, and relevant shipped work.
