Salary: USD 190,000 - 230,000 / annual
Propel builds technology to strengthen America's social safety net, helping over 5.5 million Americans manage government benefits like SNAP, Medicaid, and Medicare. You will join as a Senior Full Stack Engineer to build new Medicare and Medicaid products from the ground up. Working end-to-end across frontend and backend systems, you'll develop consumer-grade experiences that help low-income Americans understand coverage options, surface savings opportunities, and enroll in healthcare plans. You'll collaborate closely with product and design teams to shape technical architecture, build internal tooling, and create scalable integrations with healthcare and government systems.
Key responsibilities:
- Build software systems used by millions of low-income Americans
- Develop iOS and Android apps using Vue, TypeScript, and Capacitor
- Build server-side software using Python and Flask, backed by Postgres and Redis, leveraging AWS and open-source technologies
- Create reliable, scalable, and maintainable software
- Communicate effectively with team members during projects and code reviews
- Contribute to engineering culture and processes as the company scales
- Collaborate on project scoping and execution with Product and Design
- Participate in on-call rotation

REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, shipping, and maintaining complex full-stack software
- Experience in a startup environment or ability to operate effectively with ambiguity
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
- Computer science degree or equivalent fundamentals learned elsewhere
- Fluency in Python and JavaScript, or willingness to learn and specialize in these languages
- Passion for making a difference in users' lives
- Nice to have: Experience with or knowledge of government services (SNAP, WIC, TANF, SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Section 8)
