General Legal is an AI-powered legal tech platform reimagining how commercial contracts are negotiated and legal services are delivered. The company uses AI to handle the first pass of legal work, freeing lawyers to focus on high-value human interaction. Founded by a veteran team with prior successful exits and deep expertise in legal AI, the company is expanding from contract negotiation into broader legal use cases. As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you'll own major product areas end-to-end—from conception through architecture, implementation, deployment, and user iteration. You'll design and build AI-enabled features, work across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, integrations, and infrastructure, and create intuitive interfaces for complex AI workflows. You'll collaborate closely with lawyers and end users to rapidly understand problems and ship solutions. Key responsibilities include owning technical projects from idea to production, making pragmatic architectural decisions that balance speed with reliability, establishing engineering practices as the team scales, and proactively improving product quality. There's significant opportunity to grow as either a senior individual contributor or engineering leader. You'll need 5+ years of software engineering experience, strong production web application shipping experience, full-stack capability (frontend and backend), and excellent product judgment. A CS degree or equivalent is required. You must be US-eligible and able to work in-office at least 3 days per week at either the SF or NY office. Nice-to-haves include experience building AI-native products, working with LLM APIs, early-stage startup experience, zero-to-one product ownership, agentic systems, real-time applications, document processing, collaborative software, or legal tech background.
