Pebl is a global employment platform that uses AI to help companies hire, pay, and manage employees across 185+ countries. The company is building Alfie, a conversational AI assistant, and seeking a Senior Frontend Software Engineer to lead the design and implementation of user-facing AI experiences.
In this role, you'll own the frontend and UX strategy for conversational AI interfaces, working full-stack but with clear depth on the frontend side. You'll design and build features that handle streaming responses, error recovery, fallback states, user trust, and human-in-the-loop interactions. This is not an infrastructure or backend AI role—the focus is on what users see and experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build full-stack features for the conversational AI assistant, with primary ownership on frontend/UX
- Apply hands-on LLM and agentic system experience (prompt design, tool calling, multi-step reasoning, evaluation) to shape both assistant behavior and UI presentation
- Bring product taste and strong opinions on what makes AI-driven experiences great; push for polish over "good enough"
- Prototype and propose new interaction patterns as underlying models and agent capabilities evolve
- Build and maintain both frontend (TypeScript/React) and backend components; design clean APIs supporting agentic workflows
- Lead by example in code quality; mentor junior engineers and foster continuous learning
- Contribute to technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews
- Troubleshoot end-to-end issues in production, including AI-specific failure modes (bad model output, latency, dropped tool calls)
You'll be working at the edge of conversational and agentic UX—discovering patterns that don't yet exist, not maintaining established playbooks.
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years professional software engineering experience, full-stack, with demonstrated strength and clear preference for frontend/UX
- 1+ years hands-on building LLM-powered or agentic products (beyond API calls; designing agent reasoning, tool use, control handoff)
- Experience building interfaces for AI-powered products (conversational UIs, copilots, assistants) with exposure to generative/dynamic UI techniques
- Solid understanding of LLM design patterns, prompt engineering, and observability for agentic systems
- Strong modern frontend skills (React/TypeScript) plus solid understanding of frontend-backend integration, APIs, and real-time/streaming data
- Track record building products with real craft and distinctive UX (beyond standard CRUD/dashboards)
- Comfort working full-stack when needed
- Lean mindset focused on customer value, minimal waste, quick iteration, and feedback loops
- Excitement for rapidly evolving space where best AI-UX patterns are still being discovered
