TRM Labs is seeking a Senior Frontend Platform Engineer to join its fast-growing Frontend Engineering team. The role focuses on building visualization and rendering systems that power TRM's investigative platform, which helps public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime by tracing illicit activity on blockchain networks. Key responsibilities include designing and building the visualization platform for investigative interfaces, including graph exploration and large-scale data visualization. You will develop high-performance rendering systems using Canvas, WebGL, and GPU-accelerated rendering to visualize complex datasets. The role involves building reusable visualization libraries, SDKs, and platform primitives that enable teams across TRM to create powerful data exploration experiences. You'll participate in technical design discussions and code reviews to improve architecture, performance, and maintainability, and develop deep understanding of crypto and blockchain investigation workflows to inform product design. Required qualifications include strong JavaScript and TypeScript fundamentals with experience building large-scale frontend systems. You should have hands-on experience with data-dense web applications such as analytics platforms, visualization tools, or mapping systems. Experience with Canvas, WebGL, or GPU-accelerated rendering is essential, along with familiarity with data visualization libraries like D3, PixiJS, Three.js, or similar tools. Graph/network visualization experience using tools like D3-force, Cytoscape.js, vis.js, or Sigma.js is required. You should understand graph layouts (force-directed, hierarchical, radial) and have experience optimizing performance in complex UIs through virtualization, viewport culling, Web Workers, and large-dataset rendering optimization. Experience designing reusable frontend systems, SDKs, component libraries, or developer platforms is important. Strong computer science fundamentals and React/modern framework experience are expected. The team operates on weekly sprints with timezone coverage spanning EST and PST (minimum 6 hours overlap, 8am-2pm PST). An on-call rotation exists approximately one week every 16 weeks, though frontend typically handles customer support triage rather than pager alerts. The team emphasizes ruthless prioritization, execution speed, and rapid decision-making through time-boxed exploration.
