GitLab is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to join the Repository Management team within the Source Code stage. This role focuses on building intuitive, performant interfaces for repository configuration and management—critical infrastructure that serves GitLab.com, self-managed instances, and GitLab Dedicated. You will work with Vue.js and GraphQL to develop secure, well-tested features in one of GitLab's oldest and most complex product areas. The role involves solving intricate policy, permissions, and rules-based problems while maintaining high reliability through performance tuning, caching, rate limiting, testing, observability, and resiliency improvements. Key responsibilities include: - Developing secure, performant features using Vue.js and GraphQL - Translating complex requirements and legacy constraints into clear, reliable solutions - Partnering with product management, design, and UX teams to build intuitive, accessible interfaces - Collaborating across functions asynchronously and synchronously - Leveraging AI agents for well-scoped work while critically reviewing output - Writing maintainable code following GitLab standards and advocating through code review - Strengthening reliability by monitoring production metrics, participating in on-call rotation, troubleshooting incidents, and performing root cause analysis - Sharing knowledge through documentation and collaboration Required experience includes professional work with Vue.js or modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Ember), GraphQL for API integration, semantic HTML, CSS, responsive design, accessibility standards, and frontend performance best practices. You should have experience solving complex policy and permissions problems in web applications, writing frontend unit and acceptance tests (Jest, Karma, Jasmine, Mocha, etc.), and a track record of effectively using AI coding agents in large, complex codebases—including scoping tasks, reviewing generated code, and knowing when to take direct control.
