Salary: USD 176,000 - 242,000 / annual
Picnic is reinventing the workplace lunch experience by partnering with top local restaurants and batching orders to deliver high-quality, individually packed meals to companies without fees or tips.
As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you'll build and scale Picnic's real-time logistics and operations platforms. This role combines high-performance web and mobile development with architectural leadership in a fast-growing startup environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build high-performance React applications powered by WebSockets, SSE, and GraphQL subscriptions
- Contribute to and shape courier mobile apps built in React Native
- Lead technical design for complex features from architecture through production rollout
- Own projects end-to-end, driving execution, technical decisions, and cross-functional alignment
- Improve frontend reliability, latency, and scalability in real-time, high-throughput environments
- Lead debugging, incident response, and performance investigations
- Mentor and coach engineers, raising the bar for frontend engineering across the team
Required qualifications:
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with deep frontend expertise
- Strong TypeScript and modern web application development skills
- Solid understanding of client networking, async programming, performance optimization, caching, and state management
- Experience integrating with GraphQL and REST APIs
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and influence architecture
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Comfort working outside your comfort zone as the product and team evolve
Preferred: experience with delivery/logistics systems at scale, full-stack background, track record improving developer productivity, and familiarity with modern frontend architecture best practices.
The role is based in the New York office with five-day-per-week onsite collaboration. You'll drive real impact on a mission-driven team redefining workplace experience for thousands of employees.
