We are seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer to join our Quantum Tools software team in Oxford. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting web-based tools for scientific research and hardware integration used by our quantum scientists and engineers. Your work will directly enable IonQ's research and development goals and shape best-in-class UX/UI that sets the standard across the organization. In this role, you will build a variety of tools including information-dense dashboards, system telemetry interfaces, and calibration tools. You'll work on creating interfaces capable of managing complex states in data-intensive application environments, supporting the delivery of quantum tooling for next-generation platforms. You'll have the opportunity to deepen your understanding of complex systems, design features end-to-end that directly impact users, and contribute directly to project success. Key responsibilities include: - Developing scientific software and hardware control interfaces for cross-functional teams - Adhering to and setting strict testing discipline - Liaising with users from diverse backgrounds to gather requirements and understand workflows - Designing and implementing web-based tooling - Working within the wider quantum tools and software team to embed best practices and stronger processes You will work hybrid, with a minimum of two days per week on-site in Oxford. REQUIREMENTS: - Prior experience in front-end development with Typescript, HTML, CSS, and React - Ability to work across teams, translate abstract workflows into concrete graphical tools, and collaborate effectively with backend engineers in a fast-moving, highly technical environment - Deep experience in a modern framework such as React, Vue, Svelte, or Solid - Experience building interfaces around streaming data, including handling frequent updates, subscriptions, connection failures, and clear system-status feedback - Experience building interactive charts and working with large datasets - Ability to diagnose rendering bottlenecks and reason about plot update frequency, virtualization, and SVG, Canvas, and WebGL trade-offs - Sound interaction and visual design judgment for information-dense operator tools, including information hierarchy, accessibility, and keyboard workflows
