K2 Space is building the largest and highest-power satellites ever flown, backed by $450M in funding from leading investors including Altimeter Capital, Redpoint Ventures, T. Rowe Price, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The company is mass-producing advanced satellite platforms for missions from low Earth orbit to deep space, capitalizing on the shift from mass-constrained to mass-abundant launch environments.
As a Senior FPGA Prototyping Engineer, you will own the full silicon lifecycle for next-generation communications ASICs. Your responsibilities span FPGA-based prototyping to enable early hardware/software integration, first-silicon bring-up, functional validation, and automated test infrastructure development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing FPGA prototypes that enable ASIC integration, firmware development, and system validation before first silicon
- Building hardware platforms for software and firmware teams to develop in parallel with ASIC design
- Supporting first-silicon bring-up, debug, and functional validation
- Creating automated validation infrastructure for silicon characterization and regression testing
- Configuring and validating high-speed digital interfaces including Ethernet SerDes, SPI, UART, and GPIO
- Developing FPGA-based traffic generators, protocol checkers, and test applications
- Debugging issues across RTL, firmware, software, FPGA prototypes, and silicon using simulation and lab instrumentation
- Collaborating with ASIC Design, Verification, Firmware, Software, Systems, and DFT teams
Required qualifications: BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering; 5+ years FPGA development with Verilog/SystemVerilog and AMD/Xilinx tools; strong ASIC development and digital system architecture knowledge; FPGA prototyping experience for ASIC development; firmware/software enablement and hardware bring-up experience; strong hardware debugging skills with JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers; Python and scripting proficiency.
Nice-to-have skills include networking/communications/satellite systems experience, embedded processor experience (ARM or RISC-V), hard real-time embedded systems experience, high-speed digital interface validation experience, and silicon bring-up expertise.
