Northwood Space is building a global network of phased array ground stations for satellite communications, serving national security, global connectivity, and disaster response missions. As a Senior FPGA Engineer, you will architect the digital backbone of antenna systems, designing core networking and DSP blocks on FPGAs to process high-rate data streams from phased-array antennas with rock-solid reliability.
You will lead projects from concept through production, working cross-functionally with teams on prototyping, productization, deployment, and ongoing operations. Your responsibilities include assessing architectural trade-offs, defining system requirements, and optimizing designs for resilient, high-speed communication links that support global customers with minimal downtime. You'll also debug and improve deployed systems by reviewing field test data from ground stations worldwide, identifying hardware-software integration issues, and updating designs to enhance reliability and throughput.
Required qualifications include 5+ years delivering complex digital hardware designs, a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, strong Verilog/SystemVerilog skills, Python experience for automation and simulation, hands-on FPGA-based DSP and/or networking experience, and proficiency with FPGA SoCs including processors and peripherals. You must be comfortable with lab equipment like oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers for debugging high-speed designs, and this role requires onsite presence in Torrance.
Preferred qualifications include C++ or Rust proficiency for embedded software in performance-critical applications, and hands-on experience with high-performance PCBA architecture and design, including FPGA integration in demanding environments. Due to U.S. Government space technology export regulations (ITAR), you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
