Extreme Networks is seeking a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with strategic customers in designing, building, validating, and deploying complex solutions using Extreme's networking and AI-powered platforms.
In this role, you will operate in real customer environments as a hands-on software engineer, owning technical outcomes from discovery and solution design through implementation, deployment, and production readiness. You will work across application development, agentic AI, integrations, data, APIs, automation, networking, and cloud infrastructure to solve high-impact problems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working directly with customer technical teams to understand workflows, systems, data, constraints, and desired outcomes
- Designing and delivering production solutions using Extreme's products and platforms
- Owning significant technical components or workstreams from design through production readiness
- Writing production-quality software including applications, agents, APIs, integrations, data connectors, and automation
- Integrating Extreme's platforms with customer systems, data sources, APIs, identity systems, and infrastructure
- Building automated tests, deployment automation, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code
- Implementing logging, monitoring, tracing, and observability for reliable production operation
- Diagnosing and resolving complex issues across software, data, integrations, networking, infrastructure, and AI components
- Participating in architecture, design, and code reviews
- Supporting production deployment and stabilization
- Creating technical documentation, deployment guidance, and operational runbooks
- Identifying reusable components and engineering patterns to accelerate future deployments
- Identifying platform gaps and defining new feature requirements with Product teams
- Contributing to engineering standards and knowledge sharing across the FDE organization
This is a deeply technical role requiring someone energized by solving complex problems directly with customers and turning emerging technologies into production solutions. You will travel to customer sites as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of experience across the software development lifecycle (design, implementation, testing, deployment, production operations)
- Strong hands-on software development proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, C#, or C++)
- Experience building and operating distributed, cloud-based, or enterprise software systems
- Experience with APIs, integrations, data, containers, and modern software deployment practices
- Experience debugging complex software or systems issues and delivering production-quality solutions
- Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguous technical problems and drive engineering work to completion
- Experience collaborating directly with customers, partners, or external technical teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to travel to customer sites as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related discipline
- Experience building LLM-based or agentic systems (tool use, retrieval, orchestration, context management, evaluation, production deployment)
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and modern agent frameworks
- Experience with networking, network management, telemetry, observability, or distributed systems
- Experience with cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, containers, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD)
- Experience integrating enterprise APIs, data platforms, identity systems, and operational applications
- Experience with distributed data platforms, streaming systems, or real-time processing
- Prior experience in Forward Deployed Engineering or similar technical customer-facing software engineering role
