Salary: USD 115,000 - 150,000 / annual
Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for missions ranging from interplanetary exploration to national security and defense. The Space Systems team has enabled over 1,700 missions and works with partners including NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force.
As a Senior Flight Software Engineer I based in Littleton, CO, you will play a key role in developing flight software for Rocket Lab's Space Systems programs. You'll participate in all aspects of software design and development, from requirements definition through coding and testing. A unique advantage: your software will be tested on orbit within weeks and months, not years, thanks to Rocket Lab's own rockets and launch sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop application software for Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and/or embedded Linux
- Develop hardware drivers for spacecraft sensors and actuators (IMUs, Star Trackers, Reaction Wheels, etc.)
- Develop and maintain comprehensive unit tests within a Continuous Integration framework
- Collaborate with hardware-in-the-loop test engineers to verify combined software and hardware functionality
- Work with systems engineers and embedded systems engineers on requirements development, documentation, and validation
- Participate in source code reviews and ensure compliance with company coding standards
- Participate in design reviews (PDR, CDR)
- Assist with on-orbit and interplanetary flight operations
You'll join a driven team of pioneers tackling challenging projects and delivering on ambitious space exploration missions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- U.S. citizenship required (due to ITAR program requirements)
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent technical degree
- 5+ years of demonstrated applicable experience in embedded software development
- Proficiency in C and C++ languages
- Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) or embedded Linux
NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Active U.S. Secret or TS/SCI security clearance
- Advanced degree
- Rust programming language experience
- Experience developing software and drivers with CAN/CAN-FD and/or UDP/TCP within embedded systems
- Experience developing software for autonomous vehicles operating in harsh environments (satellites, autonomous vehicles)
