Salary: USD 126,000 - 167,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Equipment Safety Engineer to join the Rocket Motor Systems team at our production facility in McHenry, Mississippi. The team is designing and commissioning automated equipment for high-rate production of Solid Rocket Motors, and this role is critical to ensuring all automation equipment meets the highest safety standards.
You will lead machine safety efforts across the manufacturing and process equipment at the facility. Your responsibilities include serving as the safety expert during design, commissioning, and validation phases of automated and semi-automated production equipment. You will determine applicable safety standards, conduct comprehensive hazard analyses and risk assessments, and perform safety buyoff for equipment including conveyance systems, robotics, process equipment, and lifting systems. You will architect safety systems incorporating E-Stops, scanners, light curtains, door interlocks, and other relevant hardware. Additionally, you will investigate equipment safety failures and workplace injuries, providing corrective actions, and ensure all production equipment maintains regulatory compliance.
This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep expertise in machine safety within production environments. You will work closely with design and manufacturing teams to integrate safety considerations from the earliest stages of equipment development through operational deployment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics/Controls, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar discipline
- Minimum 3+ years of machine safety experience in a production environment
- Must have completed one of the following certifications: Functional Safety [TUV Rheinland] for Machinery Engineer, Functional Safety Engineer [TUV SUD], or Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE) [TUV NORD]
- Deep knowledge in selection, integration, and validation of safety hardware
- Proficiency with CAD packages including NX, Solidworks, or AutoCAD
- Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of machine safety experience in a production environment
- Experience with control panel layout, electrical component selection, and cable routing
- Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and safety committees
- Experience with energetic or other highly hazardous production processes
