Zillow is building a new India-based Developer Experience (DevEx) Delivery Engineering team to expand capacity and enable follow-the-sun coverage for its software delivery platform. This platform is the central paved road that all Zillow Group engineers use to build, test, deploy, and ship—supporting CI/CD, runners, GitLab, Artifactory, Progressive Delivery, mobile build/release, and legacy migration programs at scale.
As Senior Engineering Manager, you'll be a founding member of this new India site, building and leading a general-purpose platform team responsible for high-impact work across CI/CD and build infrastructure, Progressive Delivery, migration and deprecation programs, GitLab/Artifactory operations, and mobile release/build tooling. You'll own hiring, people management, performance, and career development while maintaining enough technical depth to earn credibility, engage in design reviews, and represent India-owned areas in engineering leadership forums.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and growing a high-impact founding team that owns platform, Progressive Delivery, migration, and mobile-release work as first-class contributors
- Establishing a follow-the-sun operating model with defined overlap, handoff practices, async-first documentation, and phased India on-call rotation
- Hiring a senior founding team and setting a high hiring bar
- Partnering with US area leads and TPM to allocate capacity, limit WIP, reduce context switching, and drive predictable delivery
- Raising the bar on operational excellence: on-call practices, incident response, post-incident reviews, SLOs, runbooks, and toil reduction
- Championing AI-first delivery across the SDLC, including agentic migration, AI code review, rollout analysis, and platform operations
- Creating a healthy engineering culture across time zones with clear goals, feedback, performance management, development plans, and technical-leadership growth
You'll need 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing engineering teams that build backend, platform, infrastructure, SRE, or developer-productivity services. You should have Staff+ technical depth and sound judgment, strong production ownership and incident response experience, and a proven track record hiring and developing talent. Exceptional written and verbal communication across seniority levels and geographies is essential, as is the ability to build trust with distributed stakeholders.
Preferred experience includes building or scaling a new site or distributed engineering team (especially US–India), DevEx/platform/CI/CD/cloud infrastructure/release engineering/SRE background, hands-on familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitLab, CI/CD runners, observability tooling, and modern incident management, and experience applying AI to engineering workflows.
This is an office position requiring approximately 80–100% time at the Bengaluru office each month. Employees must live within reasonable commuting distance.
