Torc Robotics, now part of Daimler, is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Offline Perception team within Data Loop and Simulation. This team develops auto-labeling pipelines and offline processing systems that produce high-quality, multi-modal training data (2D/3D object detection, semantic segmentation, dense depth) for autonomous truck perception models.
You will lead, hire, and mentor a team of engineers and ML engineers, owning the complete roadmap from dataset curation through model training, benchmarking, and delivery to downstream consumers. You'll stay technical enough to guide architecture decisions across auto-labeling integration, offline perception training, and large-scale data pipeline design, while representing the team to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders in perception, simulation, and autonomy systems.
Key responsibilities include: setting technical direction and strategy for the offline perception lifecycle; managing team health, performance, and career growth; partnering with product, auto-tagging, data delivery, and human annotation teams to prioritize roadmap and resolve dependencies; driving process and quality improvements in dataset specs and evaluation methodology; and translating strategy into concrete execution plans for senior leadership.
Required qualifications: BS/MS in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field; 8+ years software or ML engineering experience with 2+ years managing engineers; hands-on experience with auto-labeling pipelines at scale for autonomous vehicle development; track record delivering large-scale perception datasets in production (2D OD, 3D OD, semantic segmentation, dense depth); breadth across perception models and modalities; experience with AI infrastructure and data platforms (Databricks, Ray, Spark, AWS); proven ability to lead and scale technical teams; and experience setting technical strategy for ML/data engineering teams.
Bonus qualifications include: AV or robotics team leadership experience; familiarity with VLMs, auto-labeling pipelines, or perception model evaluation; experience managing managers or leading multiple teams; and knowledge of scenario description standards like Pegasus layers.
Torc offers competitive compensation with bonus and stock options, 100% paid medical/dental/vision premiums, 401K with 6% match, flexible schedule, generous paid vacation, and a collaborative, inclusive culture.
