Snowflake is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) engineering organization as the company expands its Data Cloud platform to support mission-critical transactional workloads. This role combines technical leadership with organizational growth, requiring someone to define architecture and roadmap while building and scaling multiple engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include setting technical and execution strategy for OLTP platform areas, translating product goals into architecture and team plans. You will lead and develop multiple engineering teams and managers, fostering a culture of ownership and technical excellence. The role emphasizes driving adoption of AI and agentic development practices to improve engineering velocity and quality across the software development lifecycle.
You will own critical technical decisions spanning transactions, concurrency control, low-latency query processing, storage, indexing, compaction, recovery, replication, and scalability. Operational readiness is paramount—ensuring mission-critical database services meet customer commitments for durability, availability, performance, and security through automation and observability.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in database internals, OLTP databases, or distributed storage systems, plus 8+ years leading multiple engineering teams and managers. Deep expertise in transactions, concurrency, consistency, replication, recovery, and database performance is essential. You should have strong hands-on technical ability to navigate complex codebases and drive system design decisions, combined with significant cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) operating highly available services.
This is an opportunity to shape the next generation of Snowflake's OLTP platform while working on some of the hardest problems in distributed database systems—transactions, concurrency, latency, storage, and cloud-scale operations. You'll collaborate with industry veterans and emerging leaders to create database technology that combines simplicity with mission-critical performance and reliability.
