Homebase is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the HB Assistant engineering team, a core, high-visibility product area focused on agentic AI experiences for small businesses. You will own end-to-end delivery of your engineering area, grow and develop a team of software engineers, and partner closely with Product, Design, and Data leadership to ship innovative features across web and mobile platforms.
Key responsibilities include leading, coaching, and developing software engineers building the HB Assistant platform; owning technical planning, architecture, and shipping quality; partnering with cross-functional leaders to set roadmap priorities and solve ambiguous problems; driving engineering excellence in system design, code quality, monitoring, and data validation for agentic workflows; championing AI-native, end-to-end systems thinking; recruiting and developing top talent; and balancing velocity with rigor in a fast-evolving 0-to-1 environment.
You bring 8+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years managing engineering teams in fast-paced SaaS or consumer tech. You have a strong technical foundation, fluency in modern AI/agentic engineering (LLMs, agents, tool use, evals), and experience designing platforms or developer-facing APIs. You possess strong data instincts, actively use AI tools to accelerate your work, and excel at cross-functional communication. Bonus experience includes consumer or SMB-facing products, mobile development, data-intensive recommendation systems, or familiarity with hourly workforce products.
