Instacart is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Enterprise Fulfillment engineering team, which owns the picking technology platform powering fulfillment for the world's largest retailers and millions of customers. In this role, you will drive the technical vision and strategy for a team of 10+ engineers, ensuring alignment with product strategy and company priorities. You'll own the engineering roadmap, establish enterprise-grade best practices for production services, and lead recruiting and hiring efforts to attract top talent. Key responsibilities include defining and communicating technical direction for the Enterprise Fulfillment team, overseeing technical and product decisions that balance speed with reliability and scale, and establishing standards that meet the expectations of major retailers and their customers. You will lead, coach, and develop a team of 10+ engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and technical excellence. You'll also partner across a broader organization of ~50 engineers and cross-functional networks spanning R&D, business development, and retailer stakeholders. Required qualifications: 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering management with a track record of leading teams of 15+ engineers and delivering complex consumer-facing or enterprise-facing products. You should have demonstrated ability to craft and execute strategic engineering roadmaps aligned with business objectives, hands-on technical leadership experience with prior senior or staff-equivalent IC work, and a strong track record of staffing, mentoring, and developing engineering teams including performance management. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and structured communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are essential. Preferred qualifications include experience leading multiple teams or managing other managers, managing mission-critical high-availability business systems, building enterprise-grade software at scale, and technical familiarity with Ruby on Rails, Go, Swift, and/or Kotlin. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll shape the future of how major retailers fulfill grocery orders at scale.
