Rippling is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Documents Platform team, a foundational backend platform enabling document-centric experiences across the company. The team builds APIs, services, data models, and distributed systems that make documents a first-class platform primitive, supporting use cases from document storage and management to workflows involving generation, routing, completion, and signatures.
In this high-impact platform leadership role, you will lead a team of engineers while defining the technical vision and evolution of the platform. Rather than owning a single product surface, your team will create flexible, scalable capabilities used by internal product teams, AI-powered workflows, and eventually third-party developers. You'll combine strong people management with deep technical judgment, operating close to architecture, system design, and implementation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing an engineering team
- Defining technical vision and platform evolution
- Building infrastructure that sits in the critical path of products across Rippling
- Collaborating with product teams to understand requirements and abstract complexity
- Establishing best practices for platform development and API design
- Mentoring engineers and fostering a high-performing team culture
The ideal candidate has experience managing engineering teams, strong technical depth in backend systems and distributed architecture, and the ability to balance people leadership with hands-on technical contribution. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, able to think strategically about platform design, and passionate about building infrastructure that enables other teams to move faster.
Rippling is a well-funded HR, IT, and Finance platform that has raised $1.4B+ from top investors including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, and Sequoia. Based in San Francisco with global operations, the company was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.
