Forter is a trust platform for eCommerce merchants, processing over 10M daily decisions for $500B+ annual GMV. The Decision Engineering team owns the core decision engine—a business-critical system that maintains strict latency SLAs (p99 <500ms) and 5-nines availability. In this role, you will manage a high-performing engineering team responsible for Forter's decision engine, API entry points, and self-service analytics development platform. The team operates in a highly technical backend domain with a balanced mix of product-led and engineering-led initiatives. Key responsibilities include: - Owning one of Forter's most business-critical systems and ensuring SLA compliance and long-term quality - Guiding top-tier engineers (including Staff+ level) on planning and executing high-risk projects with significant technical and business complexity - Developing engineers' understanding of business value and directing innovation toward high-impact initiatives - Innovating around the engine's capabilities, APIs, and agentic interfaces; being opinionated on product direction - Actively participating in roadmap setting with a strong grasp of business ROI and technical risk Required qualifications: - 5+ years managing business-critical engineering teams - IC experience as Staff+ Engineer or Tech Lead - Track record overseeing large projects with technical and/or business risks - Experience in performance-critical, high-scale environments with demanding SLAs Preferred: - Experience managing Staff+ engineers - Background with customer-facing technical products (APIs, CLI tools, dashboards) - Client and prospect interaction experience Forter is a well-funded fintech company ($525M raised from Tiger Global, Bessemer, Sequoia, Salesforce Ventures) trusted by major brands including Nordstrom, Instacart, Priceline, Adobe, ASOS, and eBay.
